Hiking through 16 miles of snow, ice and fog in Crocs, hikers Josh Macandog and Issay Dibaba recount their underprepared misadventure hiking the South Loop Trail to Mt. Charleston Peak so others do not repeat their mistakes. In the past three weeks, there have been four air rescues for hikers attempting the same trail.
The ordeal left the pair with pain that lasted days to weeks.
The duo said they were thankful that they were able to survive the experience, showing emotion when they learned of the air rescues that would happen on the same trail they hiked. Still interested in hiking, Macandog and Dibaba said they will approach their next adventures with greater preparation — and with checks on the day’s forecast.

As millions of Americans splurge on their Black Friday shopping, hundreds of people would line up outside Shanghai Plaza businesses searching for Japanese collectibles — including Pokémon trading cards.
Owner Peter Chen operates two businesses specializing in Japanese collectibles, each with lines hours long this morning. Many patrons waited over two hours to shop at trading card and Japanese collectible store 888 Collectibles and Japanese toy and plush store Kuma Co.
With demand high, it can be difficult for card enthusiasts to acquire the sets they want, said Chen. Stores will often place limits on how many items can be purchased, but vendors can still find their inventory emptied quickly, he continued.

The Clark County Water Reclamation District (CCWRD) stands as one of the county's first lines of defense against disease outbreaks. The government agency collects and treats more than 110 million gallons of wastewater daily before sending it to Lake Mead.
Along the treatment process, wastewater is collected at composite sampler stations, said CCWRD deputy general manager Daniel Fischer. The samples are indicative of 24 hours of flow.
“When Covid hit, the interest in wastewater epidemiology took a giant leap forward,” said Fischer. “And since then, the science has advanced.”

In 1985, Nevada State Parks (NSP) introduced Parkie Packrat, an anthropomorphic packrat, as the agency’s mascot. Parkie served as the team’s community liaison for more than two decades, appearing in community events, hosting tours, and interacting with Nevada State Parks’ youngest visitors.
Parkie was first a cartoon in the company’s team newsletters before being brought to life in 1985 and debuting as the agency’s mascot. But in the mid-2000s, Parkie disappeared.
